The first game on the back court at VIS on Saturday morning was truly a battle of the Dragons, VIS vs SSIS. This was the semi-finals for the Plate. VIS got off to a slow start, taking only one shot in five possessions, while SSIS went in the opposite direction, stealing the ball from the home team five times in the first three minutes and jumping out to a 10 – 3 lead. The VIS Dragons started stealing the ball back and picked up their defense during the last five minutes of the first half, after the power went out on campus, and the half-time score was 16 – 13 in favor of the visiting Dragons. In the second half it was a tough physical match, with SSIS continuing to make lay ups and scoring ahead of VIS the whole way until David Cote made his third 3-pointer of the day immediately followed by a VIS steal and a jump shot from Harren Kim of VIS, putting the home team ahead 28-27 amid happy screams from the VIS fans. VIS held on to win 30 – 27 in one of the most exciting finishes of the tournament. Leading scorer for VIS was David Cote with 9 points, and for SSIS it was Phillip Tran with 14 points.
