RULE EXCEPTIONS
- Game Period
- A jump ball will only be used at the start of the game and overtime periods.
- Games will be 2 x 12 minute stop time halves, with 5 minutes for halftime.
- Teams will have 10 seconds to bring a live ball from the backcourt into the frontcourt.
- Overtime Period - Overtime will be 1 period that is 2 minutes in length (stop time). If the score remains tied after the overtime period, a subsequent overtime period termed “sudden death” will follow, with the first team to score being declared the winner.
- The Playing Court
- All levels of MRISA Basketball will use a 3 point line which measures 19’9” / 6.02m from the center of the basket.
- All levels of MRISA Basketball will use a Restricted Area (Key or Lane) which is 12’ / 3.6m wide.
- Defense - A Junior team cannot implement a full-court press. Players must return to the half-court line before playing defense. However, a junior team may use any type of defense, in the last 4 minutes, of the second half and anytime during the overtime period only when the score difference is less than 20 points between teams.
- Time-Out - Teams are allotted 3 x 1-minute timeouts per game and 1 in each overtime period.
- Round Robin Tie-Break Procedure - In the event of teams being tied in the pool standings at the end of the round robin stage, the tournament will use the following tie-break system. The ranking of each team in each pool will be determined as follows:
- Point differential between tied teams (Head to head) (no credit for more than 25-point difference/game)
- Point differential in all games (no credit for more than 25-point difference/game)
- Least amount of points conceded between tied teams
- Least amount of points conceded in all games
- Coin toss
- Note: In a 3-way tie, once one team has been eliminated you continue to work through the tie-break system. You do NOT return to the top of the tie-break system.

I hereby agree to provide positive support, care and encouragement for all students participating in the any MRISA Tournament by following this Code of Conduct.

Caring Athletes – we remind you that school is in session for VIS throughout Friday. Please be considerate when moving close to classes
For All Participating Students, their Parents, and Host Families (Students and Parents)
- Smoking, drinking alcohol, drug use and / or possession, or extremely inappropriate behavior will not be permitted at any time during a MRISA Tournament.
- Penalty: In the case of an infraction, the Host School Head (or his / her representative) will remove the student from the event. The Host School Head will consult with staff conducting the event and with the Visiting student’s School Head. Following that consultation, the Host School Head may recommend the following disciplinary action to the MRISA Executive Secretary: a) The student will be sent home at the student’s expense, and b) the student will not be allowed to participate in MRISA events for the following 12 months. The Executive Secretary will decide upon the recommended disciplinary action. The student’s home school will have the option to impose further disciplinary action.
- Responsibility: Host School Head
- Local transportation: Travel to and from a Tournament will be provided only by the host school parents utilizing drivers or taxis employed by the parents. Students are not to be transported in cyclos or motorbikes. Exceptions, if any, will be communicated to visiting schools by host schools in advance of the Tournament.
- Penalty: The consequences of this violation will be suspension from all activities for 24 hours. If the violation occurs on the last day of the Tournament, the student will be suspended from all activities on the last day. It will be at the option of the student's home school to impose further appropriate disciplinary action
- Responsibility: Host School Head
- Unscheduled Activities: Students may not participate in unscheduled activities on their own or in small groups without the express permission of their respective Lead Chaperone, the Host School Tournament Coordinator and the host parents involved. Host families can require students to remain at home rather than attending an unscheduled activity. Each guest student is responsible to his / her host parent and must keep those parents informed of his / her specific whereabouts at all times.
- Penalty:
- Responsibility: Host School Head
- Curfew: Each middle school and high school student must be in the host family's home by 10:00 pm at the latest during Tournaments, or at an alternative earlier time as designated by the Tournament Coordinator.
- Penalty: The consequences of this violation will be suspension from all remaining activities, at the Tournament Coordinators and Lead Chaperone’s discretion. If the violation occurs on the last night of the Tournament, it will be at the option of the student's home school to impose appropriate disciplinary action.
- Responsibility: Host School Head
- General:
- If any behavior violation occurs, the Tournament Coordinator will communicate the details of the violation, in writing, to the guest student’s Lead Chaperone, Coach and School Head.
- The Lead Chaperones should encourage students to seek advance assignments from their teachers prior to departure. The host school will set aside times and locations for student study
- Guest Participating students and their Lead Chaperone/Coach will receive a list of details for each activity. Students are expected to follow the rules and must attend the scheduled activities as listed in the Activities Program.
- Students may not use any medications unless prescribed and / or administered by a licensed medical physician, host school medical personnel or cleared and recorded by the Tournament Coordinator.
- Guest Students and parents may not contact the host school or the host family to change assigned housing. Housing is the sole responsibility of the host school.
- In the event that medical treatment, emergency care or evacuation is needed for the student, the student’s parents will reimburse the student’s school in full for expenses incurred.
For All Participating Adults (Coaches, Chaperones & Officials)
I hereby agree to provide positive support, care and encouragement for all students participating in the any MRISA Tournament by following this Code of Conduct.
I will:
- Do my best to ensure that all events and contests are insightful and challenging for all students.
- Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all participants, coaches, officials, and staff at the MRISA sponsored event either at home or away.
- Place the emotional, psychological, and physical well-being of students in the event ahead of any personal desires I may have
- Insist that students from my school participate in a safe and healthy environment
- Promise to review and practice basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of students.
- Support all coaches, teachers, referees, parents, and others working with students from my school in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
- Accept that striving to win is more important than winning itself.
- Accept mistakes as an important part of learning.
- Remember that MRISA is for the students.
- Ask and expect that students from my school treat other participants, coaches, referees, parents and spectators, with respect, regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
- Refrain from any obscene language or gestures while participating in, chaperoning, or watching any MRISA sponsored event whether at home or away.
- Conduct myself in a professional manner outside of the activity venue for I am responsible for the students from my school at all times until they are returned to their homes in the country of their school.
- Refrain from offering alcohol, narcotics, and non-prescribed drugs to any students on or off the venue site at all times during the entire event days.
- Enforce all host school, home school, and event rules equitably among our students, ensuring that all students follow curfews, attendance, and other rules without favoritism.
- Direct all my comments and criticisms of parents, participants, and officials away from the students participating in MRISA, and I will conduct myself in a calm, civilized manner when doing so.
- Make sure that all of the above conditions are to be followed from the time I leave my school until I return to my school with students from my school.
- Abide by the MRISA rules and regulations, and I agree to abide by those rules, responsibilities and Code of Conduct.
- Take note that violations of these rules could result in an incident report and/or disciplinary action
GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PLAYERS
Athletes Team Room
- The team room is Room 8103 our PE classroom. It can be found in the fitness center/PE office on the bottom floor
- You can use this space to relax in the cool air-conditioning between your games
- Player snacks and lunch will be delivered to this room, Please clean up after yourself.
- Internet is available on the guest wifi Username: mrisa password: mrisa
Food / Hospitality
- A morning snack will be delivered at 10:00 am.
- Lunch will be available from the coaches’ lounge at 10:00am. Lunches will be a packed lunch style.
- Fruit and other snacks will be supplied in the morning and afternoon.
- The canteen is open throughout the day if you wish to purchase drinks and small snacks. The canteen accepts Kip / Thai Baht / US Dollars.
- The Coaches Hospitality Room can be found in the glass room in the Dragon Cafe
Health and Safety
- First aid will be located in the Canteen area.
- Make sure you drink lots of water each day.
- In the event of a fire alarm please assemble by teams on the soccer field at the front of the school.
- You are allowed to use the pool when supervised by your coach. Please also shower beforehand and wear appropriate clothing. Do not wear dirty volleyball kit.
